Aliens

Aliens have been a part of popular culture long before movies such as E.T. was written and long since its debut in theaters. Our fascination with creatures from other planets is reflected in books, movies, and television; it's also evident in our real efforts to find life elsewhere in the universe.

Spotting Flying Saucers is so 1950s trend where every mid westerner spotted a weird looking alien ship or two. So many pictures of these are now considered to be hoax or wait a minute is it really a hoax? We want to believe the Govt is hiding something very confidential about the extra terrestrial life form and their technology, we think all the movies coming in that light is to be true.

Our famous story tellers depicted some of the aliens as green, powerful, technically very savvy that is not yet available to humans etc. Some considered and told us that they are our friends (eg: ET), some told us that they would look like creatures that are very vicious (eg: Alien series) and ofcourse some are capable of creating crop circles and threatened by simply water (eg: Night Shyamalan's Signs). Some latest movies such as: District 9 even picturized them as bugs (prawn look alikes, just that they choose to come to a different place than USA). We were also shown movies such as Batteries Not Included with mechanical form of aliens and TV Shows such as X-Files. Even movies such as Men In Black where the world (why do all the aliens some end up in USA in cities such as New York, LA etc.) was threatened by the aliens and their gigantic ship. It's almost became part of our Hollywood movies, we almost accept them for the face value of it.

Most of all I liked the alien depiction in James Cameron's Avatar. They were shown as skinny, muscular, and tall dark skinned people on the planet called Pandora. As much as they are aliens to us, they considered the human race as Sky Riders. As much as we are used to be threatened by aliens who come to earth on spaceship and try to create havoc, they were shown as peace loving, nature loving people. End of the movie I almost joined their team by rejecting our own human race who is greedy, power/war mongers in the movie.

We love the word Alien so much we even call the people who become naturalized to USA as Resident Aliens. In some cases, we also treat them like Aliens...

Note: Really, there are lot of similarities of war and power display in some parts of the world by countries for either advancing their religion, or hatred for others, or for grabbing the natural resources, sounds like we as human race is failing to live together in harmony and if some aliens drift away in space and come from some other planet wouldn't want anything to do with us on the planet earth. We need help!

Famous or Infamous?

It's nice to be a public figure and a famous person. You would have your own groups of fans, people look up to you, where ever you go and what ever you say will matter to the media, companies want you to sponsor their products, you will be loaded with money and most of all you will be hooked to another public figure. Life is heaven... isn't it?

Well, on the contrary, there is also a huge amount of pressure to be good in the public eye every minute of your life. Think about it, the things you drink, you eat, your habits, the choices of words, your opinions about any walk of life, and you get the picture.

I can give examples of people who ruin their image because of atleast one mistake until the cows come home. Here are a few to name,

Bill Clinton: Our beloved 42nd president, who is known for his crowd moving speeches, charisma, the best times during his tenure and the list goes on. Of course, Bill always had a weakness for women and his sexual escapade with the chubby Monica became the worst of his career in the house among other things.

Michael Jackson: I think the world will never have a talented musician, dancer and entertainer like him. He was unique, self made king of pop and the most influential people across the globe. His personal relationships, his constant changing looks, controversies with children ruined his life.

You hear a lot of Child Prodigies, who suddenly become rich from rags and get hooked to sex, drugs and the other ways to ruin their public image. Super models such as Miss California, Perez Hilton and ofcourse Paris Hilton to name a few. You heard the news made by ball players too such as Kobe Bryant (who invented the phrase, "I need a Kobe's Special"), Michael Vick and now Tiger Woods.

You can find a black spot in almost any human as the saying goes, Nobody is perfect. I guess being rich, powerful and famous is not all colorful as your life is always under the microscope of the media and everyone expects you to be a role model all the time. You have no wiggle room and your personal life is not that personal as the media is always looking for the juicy details. It always boils down to power, money, sex and drugs.

I am sure lot of ordinary people will walk the dark shadows of life, do drugs, have affairs and so on but it never gets in to the middle of a show and tell. You have to be some what famous in order to make a difference.

So the question remains, to be or not to be Famous!

Of course, I am not suggesting all famous people have bad character or you can do what ever you want if you are not famous!
